Lamela's long-standing problem has seriously hampered his Tottenham career since joining from Roma in August 2013 for £30m but he was seen looking healthy, being put through his paces on Thursday at Spurs' training base in Enfield.
The Argentinian international underwent surgery in April after spending most of last season, from October, on the sidelines.
His absence, which looks set to reach almost a full calendar year, was extended further after a fresh setback.

Lamela could return to the matchday squad for Tottenham's games against Bournemouth (October 14) and Liverpool eight days later, following the next international break.
Even if he returns to full fitness, he will be unavailable for his side's Champions League group stages after being left out of the squad for the European competition.
The 25-year-old's last competitive appearance in a Spurs shirt came in the 2-1 EFL Cup defeat at Anfield on October 25, 2016, as a 61st-minute substitute.
