Wayne Rooney came off in the 81st minute, making way for Kevin Mirallas and receiving a brilliant standing ovation from the crowd at Old Trafford.
The Toffees were looking for a late response to claim at least one point at Old Trafford. However, only a minute later, Romelu Lukaku found Mkhitaryan unmarked on the left-hand side of the area and the Armenian buried the ball beyond Pickford.

That was game, set and match to the hosts, but the travelling supporters still had to watch former striker Lukaku celebrate a goal for the Red Devils. The Belgian's free-kick bounced off the wall and fell to Matic, whose shot was deflected into the back post, were it was met by Lukaku to tap in from close range.

Only moments later, Anthony Martial burst into the box aiming to get his name on the scoresheet. Before the Frenchman got a chance to shoot, Schneiderlin got a hand to the ball and the referee pointed to the spot. Martial himself stepped up to put the exclamation mark on United's win.
