Buffon is widely expected to retire at the end of the season, having previously announced that he will do so should the 'Old Lady' fail to win the Champions League.
At the age of 40, Buffon has a wealth of experience under his belt and has won almost everything there is to win, but his record on British soil leaves a lot to be desired.
The former Parma man has won just four of his 15 games in Britain, defeating an English club side just once and managing just two clean sheets.
That victory came in 2015 as Juve defeated Manchester City by two goals to one at the Etihad, with Buffon twice denying Raheem Sterling one-on-one in a vintage performance.
However, Buffon's visits to Blighty have occasionally been blighted by mistakes. A poor parry against Arsenal in the Champions League back in 2001 allowed Freddie Ljungberg in to score in a 3-1 win for the 'Gunners', whilst the Italian could only turn Andy Griffin's cross into his own net a year later in the same competition as Newcastle claimed a shock victory at St James' Park. Though it is worth noting that Buffon was otherwise in fine form that night.
England has been an unhappy hunting ground for Buffon when it comes to finals, with his first taste of disappointment back in 2003 at Old Trafford as Juve fell to defeat to domestic rivals AC Milan in the Champions League final, despite Buffon keeping a clean sheet and saving two penalties in the shoot-out.
His most recent failure in a final is still fresh in the mind, as Cristiano Ronaldo's brilliance denied the Italian what would have been a fairytale ending to a long and distinguished career with Real Madrid emerging 4-1 winners at the Millennium Stadium back in 2017.
Wednesday night sees the great return to our shores, with a certain Harry Kane waiting in the wings eager to heap further misery on one of football's greatest ever goalkeepers.
