There are three names that come to mind when the argument over the Premier League's most dangerous forward is raised. You need to look no further than the goalscoring table to find them; Harry Kane, Mohamed Salah and Sergio Aguero. These three names are the go-to suggestions in the discussions surrounding the Premier League's danger men, but there is more than meets the eye in this debate, evidenced by some lesser cited statistics.
It is undisputable that in terms of pure goals, these are the best forwards in the league. With 27 league games gone, Harry Kane has bagged 23 goals, closely followed by Salah and Aguero, who have 22 and 21 respectively. These three men also top the minutes per goal table, in reverse order: Aguero averages a goal every 85.14 minutes, Salah gets one every 92.55, and Kane every 96.87.
However, the trio also dominate a less desirable statistical table: amount of big chances missed. Mo Salah is the leader in this department, having missed more big opportunities than anyone apart from Christian Benteke (18 each). Joint second in the table are Kane and Alvaro Morata, with 14 apiece, followed by Aguero and Alexandre Lacazette, who have both fluffed their lines 12 times.
When it comes to efficiency in front of goal there are two men who rule the roost, and they both play in blue. When it comes to pure shot conversion, Wayne Rooney is ahead of everyone, scoring 30.3% of his chances. Second is Jamie Vardy, with 28.9%, and the only player in the top ten out of the three big names is Aguero, who sits in fifth on 23.86%.
The same men top the table for the ratio of big chances converted; Vardy has put away a remarkable 76.92% of his big opportunities, and Rooney is behind him on 66.67%. Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero are both more than 20% less efficient than Vardy in this regard, with 56.25% and 53.85% respectively. Salah doesn't even make the top ten.
These numbers show that, although there is only name being mentioned when it comes to Gareth Southgate's striker options, Harry Kane isn't the only danger man England can call on this summer in Russia.
